Murray Hicks
Murray Hicks specialises in sediment transport and river and coastal geomorphology. He holds honours degrees in geology and civil engineering and a doctorate focused on coastal processes from the University of California. His research has examined braided rivers, sediment delivery to the coast, river and shoreline modelling, and the use of LiDAR and other remote sensing to measure change. It also considers the effects of dams and flow diversions.

Richard Williams, James Brasington, Damià Vericat and Murray Hicks combined mobile terrestrial laser scanning with aerial photography and optical bathymetric mapping over a Rees River braided reach in research published in 2014. Their work assembled more than five billion survey observations into detailed terrain information. Processing, storing and analysing billions of points required methods suited to the size and structure of the survey data.
